It's
between Ghom and Tehran now!
SEP-26 2006
Mehrdad Hajian
Mr. Zolfagharian told us that on his
latest trip to Ghom, Baseball officials in Ghom expressed interest in hosting
this year's Baseball championship. Nothing is for sure yet, but Ghom is
certainly a possibility. If the federation and Ghom Baseball committee do not
reach an agreement, the games will probably be held in Tehran. The federation is
trying to start the tournament immediately after Ramadan. The games are going to
be in a double elimination format, with teams ranked based on last year's
performances - the host team being an exception and ranked # 1 regardless of
last year's performance. An example of the tournament format is printed below.

Will Hamid Mayeli Be The
New Head of Umpires Committee?
OCT-1 2006
Alireza Safavi
It has been a few months since
Abbas Nedaee stepped down as the head of
Iran’s Umpires Committee. During this period
countless unsuccessful attempts have been made by other umpires, coaches, and
even players to make amends between
Mr. Nedaee and the Federation, but Mr. Nedaee has maintained that he is not
coming back and the federation has not shown any real interest in offering him
his old position back either.
During
this period the Baseball family held on to the hope that since no official
replacement has been named, eventually something would be worked out. Those
hopes were shattered as there are now talks of naming a replacement for Mr.
Nedaee. There seem to be several candidates with Hamid Mayeli being the front
runner. Mr. Mayeli is an experienced umpire from
Kerman who has been umpiring most of the important games
lately.
Mr. Nedaee’s has been an integral part of
Iran baseball federation since its
establishment. His leaving is the end of an era and he will be sorely missed.

Will Co-Host the National Championship
OCT-17
2006
Mehrdad Hajian
For the first time in the history of Iran Baseball, the
games will be held in two different cities simultaneously. After many
negotiations between the federation and the two cities, it was finally
decided to divide the teams in to two divisions, so both cities can host
the tournament.
This year's tournament features defending champion,
Tehran, hosting last years finalist ,Kerman, 2 time champion
,Isfahan, Gilan, Khorasan and the newcomer ,Mazandaran, in a very tough
division. Meanwhile Ghom will be hosting last years third place
finisher, Semnan, Booshehr, and newcomers Karaj and Fars.
Teams will play in a double elimination format in the
preliminary round, with the top two surviving teams in each division
battling it out in Tehran.
